Experience points (XP) raise your level. Rank points are summed over the whole account and set your rank. Titles are earned by what you do and show above your name in space.

LEVEL REWARDS
Every level pays out, every fifth level and the last level more so. No permanent damage, hull or shield bonus is given: over twenty-four levels it would pile up and open a gap between newcomers and veterans that could never close.

RANK POINTS
Renown and rank points are different things. Renown is a reward: it comes from aliens, pilots, quests and gates. Rank points are the sum of your whole account; renown is just one part of it.

Losing to an alien costs no points. The total never goes below zero.
RANK DISTRIBUTION
Ranks are not set by point thresholds but by your place in your company. Each company's pilots who flew in the last 28 days are sorted by rank points: the pilot at the top becomes General, and the rest are dealt from the top down in the shares below. The deal is renewed once a minute. Pilots under 10 points stay on the first rung.
Every company's ladder uses the same shares under different names. The names below are the ranks of Torvan Mining Consortium.
